Bridge Between Generations

Warsaw, Poland · Since 2021

An intercultural and intergenerational initiative connecting young volunteers with nursing home residents to combat elder loneliness through shared activities and dialogue.

"Bridge Between Generations" (Most Między Pokoleniami) is a long-term social responsibility initiative designed to strengthen bonds and communication between younger and older generations. In modern society, loneliness and social isolation remain profound challenges for seniors, often aggravated by a lack of cross-generational communication that threatens the organic transfer of cultural values. To address this, the project builds a sustainable platform for young people and nursing home residents to interact, fostering a long-lasting, supportive community atmosphere.

The project pairs young volunteers from diverse cultural and international backgrounds with participating residents of senior care homes, such as the "Chemik" Social Assistance Home in Warsaw. Together, they engage in a wide array of activities, including live musical concerts, art programs like traditional Ebru water painting courses, recycling workshops, and festive gatherings for Grandma and Grandpa’s Day, Easter, and Christmas. These encounters introduce a vibrant, joyful energy to the facilities, ensuring that elderly residents feel remembered and valued.

This practice matters because it provides a symbiotic solution to modern social isolation. For senior residents, regular visits break the cycle of loneliness, stimulate cognitive well-being, and broaden horizons through exposure to new cultures. For young volunteers, the initiative enhances essential communication skills, fosters cultural integration within their local society, and offers an irreplaceable opportunity to learn life wisdom directly from the rich experiences of elders
